Kombucha Brewing - Day 3

Strange, but completely normal developments in all three cultures.

All three jars

The biofilm (skin covering the surface) of all 3 jars has noticeably thickened and is becoming more visible, looking more milky/opaque than before.

The LEFT culture's jellified blob has grown even more and is raised now slightly above the surface as part of the new developing scoby.

The MIDDLE culture (with the old scoby on the bottom) is developing the best new scoby on top, seemingly thicker than in the other 2 jars. This new scoby has a surprising amount of clusters of little bubbles integrated in the new biofilm (scoby) which look like tiny diamond splinters. No 'ooglies' so far.

BTW, ooglies are harmless little or bigger masses of yeast strands, and/or jelly-like blobs of new scoby beginnings, often interspersed with tea leaf filaments that form either in the liquid itself or on the old and new scoby. Even though they don't look exactly appetising, they are absolutely harmless. Unlike fuzzy mould, these are always of a slimy nature.

The RIGHT culture, the green-tea one, is also forming a good biofilm, but has now developed a strange, dark, ominous looking cloud underneath the film/scoby, in the liquid itself. I have no doubt it will turn out to be a classic oogly, one of the biggest ones I have ever seen.

The oogli

Day 3, so far, so good!
