Kombucha Brewing - Day 1

Today I prepared 3 jars with sweet tea.

All three jars

The MIDDLE jar has a scoby (momma) on the bottom plus acidic starter. Tea is made from mixture of green-oolong-black teas. Note the dark colour.

Jar on your (viewing) LEFT contains tea made from black and oolong teas, so it is also quite dark. Added to it is a good amount of acidic KT only, no scoby from a previous fermentation added.

Jar on your (viewing) RIGHT contains tea made from green tea and oolong tea. Therefore the greener colour. Only Kombucha vinegar added as before, but no scoby/solid culture from a previous ferment.

On the first day you observe no fermentation activity and a clear surface with nothing yet growing on it.

Ah well, on with the covers to preserve their modesty (not to mention hygiene...).

All three jars

The covers would normally stay on except when testing, but I've removed them each time to take the pictures so that you can see the appearance more clearly.
