Muzzle That Cat!

"Muzzle that cat,
devourer of mice and torturer of birds! " (*)
Turn him into a muncher
of gentle herbs and peaceful grass,
no more to claw caught flesh
and spatter sore-red blood!
Turn that human
that consumer of killed things
to embrace
cabbage, carrot and corn,
peas, potatoes and pulses.
and rice deliciously scented.
Turn that God
and His obsession with blood streams
of Old Testament gore
of goats and oxen, sheep and doves
into a mild-mannered wizard
waving a magic wand
to make our sick lives whole ...
Why should a spotless lamb
on Golgotha hill be slaughtered for me?
There is a bloodless way of pride
most people travel who are perishing.
And yet the way of bloody death spawned life
and Paradise lost will come again
once this age is fulfilled
and Jesus the Messiah comes to rule as Prince of Peace.
Then wolf and lamb will feed together
as Isaiah says
and muzzling that cat will not be necessary!
